Professor Emeritus Ken Maguire, 2016 inductee into the prestigious Black Hawk College East Foundation Wall of Fame.

This special distinction is bestowed upon individuals who make significant academic, volunteer, and/or philanthropic contributions for the growth and development of the East Campus of Black Hawk College.

About Ken

Professor Emeritus Ken MaguireAs one of the original faculty members hired in 1967, Ken devoted 36 years as a Professor of Liberal Arts & Sciences (LAS) teaching U.S. Government, Sociology, Anthropology, as well as other history classes, to thousands of students attending Black Hawk College East Campus. Students and faculty peers describe him as one of the best lecturers at the college. Ken also served as the LAS Department Chair for 13 years, Interim Dean of Instruction, and chaired two North Central Association Accreditation studies. He was a major influence on the athletic programs at the East Campus as Co-Coach of the first Women’s Basketball Team, also founding the Black Hawk East Booster Club in 1973. He also was Co-Founder and first President of the Arrowhead Athletic Conference. Through his dedication and leadership, Ken has been instrumental in the growth and development of Black Hawk College East Campus.

In addition, Ken is a long-time member of the Kewanee Elks Club, and has served as Chairman of the Kewanee Human Relations Committee. He and his wife Cathy have generously supported the college through the Black Hawk College East Foundation.

In recognition for his achievements, the Black Hawk College East Foundation is establishing the endowed Ken Maguire Liberal Arts & Sciences Scholarship which will provide financial assistance to Liberal Arts & Science transfer students for many years to come.

To date, more than $7,750 has been raised towards the $20,000 goal established by the 2016 Wall of Fame Committee for the Ken Maguire Liberal Arts & Sciences Scholarship. With your help, we can reach this goal and carry out Ken’s legacy by providing students with an incredible education at Black Hawk College East Campus.

BHC East Foundation Wall of FameProfessor emeritus Ken Maguire recently was inducted into the Black Hawk College East Foundation Wall of Fame in a ceremony at the college’s East Campus south of Kewanee.

The Wall of Fame represents individuals and organizations that have made Black Hawk College East Campus the quality higher education institution it is today.

As one of six original East Campus faculty members hired in 1967, Maguire devoted 36 years as a professor of liberal arts and science, teaching U.S. government, sociology, anthropology and other history courses to thousands of students. Students and faculty peers describe him as one of the best lecturers at the college.

Maguire also served as chair of the Liberal Arts and Science Department for 13 years, interim dean of instruction, and chaired two North Central Association Accreditation studies.

He was a major influence on the athletic programs at the East Campus as co-coach of the first women’s basketball team and founder of the Black Hawk East Booster Club in 1973.He also was co-founder and first president of the Arrowhead Athletic Conference. At the April 22, 2016, Wall of Fame induction ceremony, Maguire received tributes from professor emeritus Steve Sams who retired in 2003 with Maguire; BHC alumnus Brock Tumbleson of Schueneman & Tumbleson Funeral Home; BHC alumna RaeAnn Tucker, director of health promotion for the Henry & Stark County Health Departments; and Dr. Dennis Gerleman of Gerleman Chiropractic Clinic and president of the Illinois Elks Association.

Through his dedication and leadership, Maguire was instrumental in the growth and development of the Black Hawk College East Campus. He and his wife Cathy have generously supported the college through the Black Hawk College East Foundation.

To honor Maguire for his outstanding career and contributions to higher education, the foundation established the Ken Maguire Liberal Arts & Sciences Scholarship. It will provide financial assistance to East Campus liberal arts and science transfer students for many years to come.

More than $22,000 has been raised for the scholarship in cash and pledges, including a generous donation from Ken and Cathy Maguire.

 

About Wall of Fame

Since 1992, the Black Hawk East College Foundation has inducted 27 individuals into its prestigious Wall of Fame. This distinction is bestowed on an individual or organization that has made significant academic, volunteer, and/or philanthropic contributions for the growth and development of the East Campus of Black Hawk College. A framed photograph of each inductee is displayed on the Wall of Fame at the East Campus.

We have also honored 19 individuals and organizations who have been recognized with the Distinguished Service Award which is also presented at the Wall of Fame recognition reception. Their names are proudly displayed on the Distinguished Service Award Plaque on the Wall of Fame. Learn more
